What does a 15 minute mile pace mean?
What that means is after the 15 minute per mile pace we start to open roads and volunteers start heading home. Runners can continue and have to understand that roads are now open and are required to move to the sidewalk. Water stations are closed after the 15 per mile pace. We do have staff on the route in vehicles with water checking on runners to make sure they are OK. Some of the directional signs are also taken down at that time as well. We do continue to pass out medals till all runners are back in. After about 6 hours we start cleaning up the finish line. At that point most of the crowds have gone home. Water stations begin to close at Mile 1 at 7:15 a.m. and every 15 minutes each mile after that. Full Marathon runners who are at the Half Marathon breakaway point (mile 12.5) who have fallen behind the 15 minute pace will be encouraged to complete the Half Marathon and go directly to the finish line and receive a Half Marathon Medal.
